Special Application Scoped Rifle – Medium
The SASR-M is based on the SWORD Defense Systems Mk-18 that was initially designed in 2010 using SWORD’s proprietary short-stroke gas piston system, modern advances in metallurgy, and an unbelievably precise barrel manufacturing process. Much in the way the M2 Heavy Machinegun is complemented with the capability of the existing program-of-record SASR (M107) in .50 BMG, SWORD Defense Systems looks to the future of the DoD weapons landscape. With USSOCOM and the broader DoD transitioning to .338 Norma Mag with the Lightweight Machinegun-Medium (LMG-M), the requirement will exist for a semi-automatic platform that can support both long-range engagements of personnel and materiel, with the intended purpose of equipping Snipers and EOD with a solution chambered in the highly capable new .338 Norma Mag. The SASR-M affords the warfighter the opportunity to use precision and anti-materiel ammunition at great distances, or break links away from the machine gun belt and put rounds down range in-extremis.
